What is photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy?
Photobiomodulation therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, is used by athletes for the treatment of damaged tissues. The therapy uses lasers to reduce the inflammation, lessen the pain and promote tissue repair. Other than sports injuries, PBM therapy is also used for low back pain, neuropathic pain and arthritis.
The treatment process
In photobiomodulation therapy, the affected area is exposed to the red or near-infrared light beam that should be in non-ionising forms, for example, lasers, LEDs, and broadband light.
