Frequently Asked Questions

These are the most frequently asked questions when people have been using the NovoThor machine. If any of these don’t cover your concerns please contact us.

How does PBM Work?

Photobiomoduation Therapy (PBM), formerly known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), works at cellular level. It’s the application of red and near infrared light stimulating tissue repair, increasing production of cellular energy whilst reducing inflammation and pain. By absorbing the light through the cells, it targets the cause of inflammation, something called ‘Oxidative Stress’ (OS). Research has shown that OS can lead to chronic inflammation, which in turn contributes to chronic diseases. Anything from simple colds to cardiovascular, pulmonary diseases, cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s.

Can anyone use it?

As the moment, the only people who need to get written confirmation from consultants are those who are either pregnant or have been/are being treated for cancer. Otherwise, it is deemed safe for all other users.

Whats the application?

Once in the NovoThor body pod, the red and near infrared is delivered to the whole body during a 15-20 session.

How does it compare to other therapies?

Because it works at cellular level, it gets to the source of a problem by repairing, rehabilitating and energising the cells. Other therapies only tend to treat the symptom. With this in mind, some chronic and degenerative diseases can’t be healed but they can be better managed giving relief to sufferers.

How can PBM therapy be used?

A noninvasive therapy that has been shown to be highly effective for acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as sports injuries, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, neuropathy, arthritic pain, gout , MS and parkinson’s.

Has there been testing?

There have been over 400 clinical trials and 4000 laboratory studies on PBM Therapy carried out over the years, with on average 30 new research papers a month being reported on Pub Med (www.nbci.nim.nih.gov/pubmed/).

NovoThor was developed by James Carroll, a recognised authority on LLLT mechanisms of action, dose and the measurement and reporting of parameters. He works with many universities and hospital research centres on treatment parameters including Harvard Medical School and MIT.

Will I feel anything?

PBM Therapy does not heat heat like other high intensity lasers but due it increasing circulation, a warming sensation can be felt. The following outcomes have been experienced by people but due the fact that every one is different they may not apply to you and they are not a guarantee, promise, representation or assurance that you will achieve the same or similar results:

•    Temporary euphoric feeling

•    increased energy levels

•    improved sleep patterns

•    improved skin clarity and tone

•    decreased swelling of extremities

•    decreased inflammation

•    increased mental clarity

•    increased general sense of well-being

How many sessions are required?

Everybody’s physiological condition is different, so, each person’s reaction to the PBM Therapy will be unique. There are some general rules of thumb that apply. Acute injuries and inflammation from muscle strains, joint sprains, cuts, bruises, burns etc, these typically show rapid improvement within 2-4 sessions. Whilst chronic conditions can take as many as 12 sessions to start to see significant benefits. Maintenance sessions of maybe 1 to 2 weekly may be needed to sustain the improvements.

What is the session process like?

The body pod would of been cleaned using alcoholic wet wipes for hygiene, Clothe removal is required to a level that you are comfortable with but it must be noted that the light does not penetrate clothing. Also bear in mind that even if there is only a small area that you are particularly trying to repair, the machine covers the whole body, therefore, other area will benefit as well. You will then lay in the unit face up where a head rest will be provided if required. Goggles are also provided if the brightness is too much. However, as the light works on the optic nerves, you would benefit from looking into the light. The glare dies down after a few seconds.

Is it covered by the health insurance companies?

Every private health company are different. It may be worth contacting them to see if they will cover the sessions or pay a percentage towards them.
